I recently was given a red chair for my living room…this was a great gift, but what it did was created a need for a total makeover in my living room! I was lucky that this coincided with our family picture time…so I asked my friend, Molly Flanagan, to work in some special details…such as red balloons! Why is this important you ask…because…those pictures are hanging on the walls in my living room…where I needed to add a pop of red here and there!! I matched the accents and details of our session to the area in my home that those images would be. This is something everyone should consider when planning for their session…you want images that will match your style and decor…you want images that speak of who you are! As a photographer…my goal is to put art on your walls…you, your children, your dog, whatever…are the art that needs to adorn your walls!!
In creating my own session…I, as the client, had another desire…to get images of me for my blog. I wanted images that conveyed my style, that were fun, and also that included a very special camera. The camera that you see in the images belonged to my Granny. She was raised very poor in little Pea Ridge, NC (don’t look on a map, you won’t find it). She went away to work at a summer camp and while there, she saved enough money to buy a brownie camera. This is the camera featured in some of my images. I love that she had a passion for photography and understood the importance of documenting her life and the lives of those around her! I styled those outfits around a fun yellow chair I had…I incorporated the newest color combos out there of yellow, white, and gray and found things to make it pop! I used vintage yellow glasses, yellow shoes, textures in the neckline of my shirt and the sweater I wore…to visually tie it all together. I am really happy with the results!
So, I hope that this gives you insight on what I did to plan for my session…in planning yours, the main thing to remember is that I am here for you! I am not just your photographer…I am the person that needs to know all the details so that I can make this as personal, enjoyable, and memorable as possible for you!
PS…no pictures here…just my ramblings…more babies coming later!!
