Over the past few years, the idea of using photography to leave a lasting legacy has been very important to me. As I have continued to build my business, I have realized more and more that it is SO much more than a business…it is a way to help families create heirlooms that will be cherished for years to come.
Having the ability to help couples and families document their lives and special moments and to begin to create a legacy for their children, grandchildren, and so on is such an amazing gift. The dictionary defines legacy as anything handed down from the past and I believe that the stories, memories, and photographs are one of the greatest legacies we can leave the generations to come.
Recently, I had the opportunity to document the Graveside service of a man who had passed away. His family greatly loved and honored this man and planned a beautiful service and fortunately thought of me as the one to document it. This family is very precious to me and I have been blessed to be a part of many happy occasions that they have had. With the coming of this sad occasion, it was still very important to them to document this part of their families legacy as well.
The funeral was absolutely breathtaking and was the first military funeral that I had been a part of. The ceremony and respect shown to the deceased as well as the family is something I think we can all learn from. There was also a dove release that was such an incredibly special part of the service that I believe really allowed the family to be actively involved in saying goodbye. I was moved to tears more than once as I watched this service unfold behind my camera.
I hope that with these images, you can see that creating legacies is not just about Weddings, Births and Family Portrait Sessions…it is about documenting all of life, even the sending off celebrations.
