The Birth of Lael | Spartanburg, SC | Birth Photographer

I first met her mother through Labors of Love Midwifery Center…she was due in about two weeks and I was unsure if I would even be able to fit her in. I told her we would put her on my stand-by list which means I can’t promise I will be there if the baby comes during a scheduled session or while I was out of town…but, that if the Lord was willing, the baby would come when I could be there. Well…the Lord was willing.

I got the call right after I got home one evening…I had changed clothes, gotten Josh ready for bed, and was just getting ready to read him his story. Cassie called to say she thought she was in labor…but, that she was going to start timing to be sure. I imediately arranged for Josh to go to his Nana’s for the night, got my clothes changed and waited for the call to say come on…it came about 15 minutes later when she called to say they were regular at 4 minutes apart…and that her labors tended to be quick!

I headed to the car and started the 40+ minute drive to her home where this sweet baby was to be born. About 15 minutes into the trip…I heard from her husband to say that the midwives were there and it looked like this was the real deal. Once I arrived…there was already a crowd there with multiple cameras going…I found a spot and upon direction of Linda the midwife…I started shooting fast! That baby was almost here! Within about 15 minutes of my arrival…sweet little Lael Love was delivered…her name means from God…and I believe she truly is!

Her birth was magical…her mother was so controlled and focused on bringing her into the world. I was mesmerized with the process! I hope you love the attached slideshow…obviously on this one there is some creative cropping…but, the emotion and story is still there! Oh…and the cell phone showing the time…that was the midwife’s phone…she got a call at 7:26 that labor had begun…the baby was born at 9:26!!
